monthly favourites february 2013

Hey dolls!!

Is it really wrong that I kinda feel like I’m already a little bit late with this video even though it’s only the 2nd of March? I think that’s so wrong, but I can’t help it! Actually the video was meant to go up yesterday, but then I remembered that Mother’s Day is around the corner. So I thought putting together a mothers day gift ideas post would make more sense!

Anyways, this monthly favourites video is a little bit longer than my last monthly favourites video but there were a lot more products to play around with last month, I felt a lot more experimental with (and worried about) my skin and stuff.

Hope you’ll like my Monthly Favourites February 2013 video!!

Have a brilliant weekend (I’m going to be busy with chores and feeling sorry for myself for my hungover ass!)

Monthly Favourites > November

Monthly Favourites NovemberAs always, my monthly favourite feature some hardcore favourites that I will forever swear by (I think; my love is fickle) and then some newbies that I now think I swear by but might be replaced next month haha.

Perfume
I’ve loved this Dolce & Gabbana L’Imperatrice perfume since I smelled my old uni friend Emma, when Lodz and I visited her in Paris 2 years ago. It’s got this beautifully light fruity and fresh scent from watermelon and kiwi notes – not too heavy, so I wear it day and night (I have quite a few perfumes but this one is the one I reached for most this month).

Hair
While I’m not overly keen most of their products, John Frieda Full Repair Style Creator Heat-Activated Styling Spray (*) owns my heart. I had tried other heat-activated styling products before and didn’t like them, because they made my hair all sticky and difficult to style in the first place. This spray positively surprised me as it does make my curls hold for a couple of days – of course they drop because of the weight of my hair, but it does leave some definition. Not sure on the ‘repairing’ aspects of the spray though – can’t say it’s made my hair better, but not worse either. So I guess it definitely protects my hair.
The VO5 Give Me Texture Spray (*) is a brilliant addition on top of the styling spray. Once I’ve finished curling my hair, I spray some of the VO5 stuff in my hair for a bit off artificial messy hair. Love it!

Foundation
I gotta admit, I never tried a mousse foundation before this one, but I couldn’t exactly say no when the lovely Avon makeup artists said it would work great with my skin! Boy am I glad I listened! The Avon Ideal Flawless Matte Mousse Foundation (*) is perfect. Matte finish just how I like it – thanks to my oily skin I get that ‘dewy finish’ just in a couple of hours anyways. Its powdery feel makes it really light on the skin too, which is always a bonus.

Cheeks
I wouldn’t be able to choose just 1-2 items. I play with my blushers every day and like to change them depending on my mood. But when it comes to highlighters I have to go-tos when I’m in the rush or being lazy – these are both perfectly safe options because they go with everything: Accessorize Baked Bronzer – Golden Sand & Benefit Girl Meets Pearl. In terms of blushers it’s the same spiel – I love changing blushers, but at the moment I do love the Kiko Cosmetics Powder Blush – 112 and my MAC Powder Blush – Fever the most. I need to try more cream blushers again, me thinks!

Eyes
I’ve become so super lazy when it comes to eyes, you won’t believe it. Most of the days I don’t wear anything other than a flicked liner, which my Pixi Lash Line Ink – Black (*) is absolutely perfect for. So precise and long lasting! Lily recommended it to me so I couldn’t exactly say no! With this look, I find it’s really important to have full looking lashes, so I use the Avon SuperShock Gel Liner – Black (*) to tightline so that the base of my upper lashes is black. If I do anything with my eyes though, it’ll be one solid colour on the lid, blended on the edges and that’s what I use the Famous by Sue Moxley The Big Cat Palette (*) for – of course after applying MAC Paint Pot – Painterly (surprisingly I’ve gone off all the other eye primers!).
And the two items I swear by, come what may, are the Avon Glimmerstick Brow Definer – Blonde (*) despite the fact that I am brunette, this is dark enough for me, and the Collection Big Ultimate Fake Mascara – Brown/Black (*) for super thick long lashes (great affordable dupe to the Benefit Bad Gal Mascara!)

Lips
Dark lipsticks have been my favourites this month, which is really weird because I don’t normally do lip products at all. I constantly forget to check whether my lipstick is still on which it isn’t most of the time thanks to my smoking and talking WAY TOO MUCH. So I try to remember to use my MAC Lip Pencil – Beet which is great underneath darker lipsticks. So for me to stock up on lipsticks and struggling to actually boil it down to like 5 lipsticks that I wore most in October is a huge deal haha. So here’s my October 5 Top Lipsticks:  Autograph – Raspberry (*), MAC Prolong Wear Lipstick – Prolonged, Rimmel Kate Moss Matte Lipstick – 107 (*), No7 Stay Perfect Lipstick – Glace, MAC Lustre Lipstick – Lady Bug and the fantastic satin-finish dupe for the Rimmel lipstick Sleek True Colour Lipstick – Cherry (*)

What were your go-to products in November?

Also, should I maybe do this in a video rather than a post? Let me know!

Top 5 Lipsticks for The Perfect Red Lip

Top 5 Lipsticks for Perfect Red Lip (08)It’s actually quite unusual for me to be wearing lipstick what with me being a dirty, dirty smoker and lip products normally leaving me looking like a clown, but in the past few weeks as I’ve been finding myself actually not even wanting to leave the house without a lippie on.

I can pretty much pinpoint that moment when I fell in love with lipstick again: London Fashion Week, when I had to make myself look the part (be the judge of whether I succeeded over here).

Combined with a dark smokey eye look I think red lipstick can be so incredibly hot! Obviously, it’s NSFW (not safe for work) at most places, but in general for out and about it can bring just the right amount of attention to those who seek it (why else would you wear a bright red lippie if you didn’t want to draw attention to your face?)

So here are the 5 products that can deliver a perfect, deliciously seductive pout for this Autumn/Winter season…

Top 5 Lipsticks for Perfect Red Lip (07)Top 5 Lipsticks for Perfect Red Lip (06)
MAC Prolong Wear Prolongued / BeautyUK Vampire (*) / Burberry Lip Cover Ruby (*) / Burberry Lip Velvet Pink Azalea (*) / Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Intense 29 Satin Rosewood

Top 5 Lipsticks for Perfect Red Lip (01)
MAC Prolong Wear Lipstick in Prolongued – £16.50

Top 1: This MAC lipstick is really heaven sent. I normally refuse to use MAC products for the simple reason that they’re in a league of their own when it comes to ripping customers off, but this lipstick, that I bought more than a year ago, is just amazing. Even with my smoking it lasts forever and while it dries to a satin/matte finish it still doesn’t flake like many other supposedly long-stay lipsticks.

Top 5 Lipsticks for Perfect Red Lip (02)
BeautyUK Lipstick in Vampire (*) – £3.49

Top 2: I know it’s not quite obvious in the pictures thanks to the bad lighting in my room, but this BeautyUK one is actually in terms of colour and finish a brilliant dupe to the MAC lippie above. But that’s where the similarities end. The BeautyUK lippie has an interesting minty flavour to it, so it prickles the lips a bit to plump them up. But it doesn’t last as long as the MAC one. Still absolutely fantastic, especially for the price!

Top 5 Lipsticks for Perfect Red Lip (03)
Burberry Lip Cover Lipstick in Ruby (*) – £22.50

Top 3: I have to be honest and admit that I probably would’ve never tried this lipstick due to Burberry’s hefty price tag, but I have to say that the lipstick is absolutely gorgeous! I’m not quite sure I can say the price tag is justified, but this lippie practically glides onto my lips like it’s meant to be there. It feels incredibly luxurious! Perfect brick red!!

BUT red alone isn’t the only shade this AW season, that is massively popular – burgundy shades are just as much, in clothes as well as in beauty products. So if you’d rather go with a burgundy lip rather than a red one, here are 2 products that will give you just that:

Top 5 Lipsticks for Perfect Red Lip (04)
Burberry Lip Velvet Lipstick in Pink Azalea (*) – £22.50

Top 4: This is the 2nd Burberry lippie and actually my favourite out of the 2 Burberry ones and also my 2nd favouite lippie out of these 5 lippies after the MAC one.
As you can see in the image the lippie dries matte, which is brilliant – it is the perfect finish for the burgundy colour. It makes the colour look darker and more intense. Just heavenly for this dark, cool, moody season! But again, hefty price tag – unfortunately I haven’t found a good dupe yet! Someone find me one?

Top 5 Lipsticks for Perfect Red Lip (05)
Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Intense Lipstick in 29 Satin Rosewood – £16.50

Top 5: This is not fully burgundy, at least not as dark as it could be, but I still think this colour is brilliant. I think this colour is ok to be worn at work, more so than the other more intense colours! But alas, the problem with Make Up For Ever is obviously the trying the products – as far as I know the only company that actually retails their products in store is in London!

Whatever colour and brand you choose, make sure you try the cheaper brands first – they can be just as great as the pricier ones!

Will you wear red / burgundy lips this autumn/winter? What are your favourite lipsticks?
