With the first summery day last week I felt inspired and went for a sunrise/sunset kind of ombre nails look, which I included in my InstaWeek #2 post. Now, ombre nails aren’t anything new, but I thought for those of you who missed that trend from last year and wanna know how it’s done (I’m looking at my friend Stefanie, who asked me to do this tutorial ;-)), here is a small tutorial.
Prep your nails with a base coat
Any base coat will do. Base coats help you avoiding stained nails, which is always a big plus, otherwise when you switch to clear or nude nail polish the stain might shine through! I use the clear 60 Seconds polish by Rimmel.
Pick your colours
Go for colours that are close together in shade, hue and tint like I did – I chose a light yellow (Models Own Lemon Meringue), an ‘Easter’ yellow (MUA Love Hearts U & I (*)), a peach colour (Models Own Peach Sherbet), a darker peach-orange colour (Models Own Fuzzy Peach) and a light-ish coral red (Manhattan 36K from their Freaky Friday limited edition collection) to create my gradient/ombre sunset look.

I recommend using nail polishes with the same finish – it just looks a bit neater, but then I like neat and maybe you don’t? You can obviously variate here :-) Stefanie wanted me to do this tutorial with green polishes, but unfortunately I dont have that many greens in different shades to create a gradient look.
Apply the polishes…
In whichever order around (darker one on thumbs and then going around your hand to end up with the lightest colour on your pinkie finger, or the other way around). You might need 2-3 coats to get the colour payoff depending on your chosen nail polish, obviously.
Finish up…
with a coat of top coat (here I used Rimmel‘s clear 60 Seconds again) and you are done!! Easy tutorial but a great effect nail look! You could now maybe even add some golden glitter polish to give it even more of a summery glam kick!
Hope you enjoyed this little tutorial! Sorry if I bored those of you who already knew how to do this – but then it’s never bad to refresh your memory, right?
Will you be sporting this cute summery look?
