Follow Friday Interview Series: British Beauty Blogger

Happy Friday!!!! Happy Long Weekend!!
Today I’m really, really, really excited, not just about the fact that we’ll have Monday off due to Bank Holiday, but more importantly about the following blogger who said YES to participating in my Follow Friday Interview Series. I’ve been in love and in awe of her and her blog for a long while! It was one of the first blogs I’ve ever followed and I’m still over the moon that she even said yes to participating! (Yes I’m having a fan moment! LOL). And she’s one of the biggest bloggers I know :-)
I’m sure you all know her and read her blog anyways (tut tut if you don’t!), but let me introduce you to Jane from British Beauty Blogger!!! EXCITEMENT!
Name: Jane
Age: Shhh.
How long have you been blogging?
Three years.
How many subscribers (across all media incl Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, etc) do you have right now?
Erm, not sure.. I have approx 100,000 hits per month on BBB and have over 11,000 followers on Twitter I don’t do YT or FB.
What do you blog most about (reviews? make-up looks? hair care products? fashion?)?
I like to blog most about up and coming products and much prefer writing about make up to skin care or hair care.. in fact, I very rarely do hair because I find it hard to be interested at all!
How did you come up with your blog’s name?
I chose British Beauty Blogger because when I started blogging, there were really not very many UK blogs at all and I wanted to make the distinction that mine was UK based and not in the US where most of the blogs were at the time. Given the chance to go back, I probably wouldn’t call it that because while it sounds okay in your head, when you say it out loud it is a bit of a mouthful!
Do you blog full-time? If not, what do you do full-time?
I’m a freelance beauty and fashion writer, currently writing mainly for Metro, but recent projects include and I would say though that the blog takes more and more of my available time so what I can do outside of that is becoming less and less.
Have you ever been invited to any blogging events? If yes, which one was your favorite?
Yes, I’m invited to a lot of blogging events, but because I am also invited to press events, I tend to go to more of those now because it is more difficult for me to get out and about in the evenings as my husband works abroad and I’m needed at home to make sure life goes smoothly for my two kids and my two poodles!
What type of hair do you have and what’s your favorite hair care brand?
I have dryish hair that is naturally curly. I straighten the life out of it of course! My current favourite hair product is a new find – Orofluido that is perfect for my hair type. I’ve been using the Orofluido Intensive Mask and usually just use the Pantene Aqua Light shampoo – it does the same as any really premium brand shampoo and I’m a total convert.
What’s in your make-up bag?
Currently loving Bobbi Brown Tinted Moisturiser, Garnier BB Cream and Daniel Sandler Creme Brush (always applied with a brush and not fingertips). There is always some black kohl and a Lanolips Lip Balm in any of their colours because they all suit me, and I’ve got a real thing for navy blue powder eye liners.. I’m using a Trish McEvoy one at the moment.
What products do you swear by?
I swear by BIOEffect EGF serum – it’s really expensive at £125 – but you don’t need eye cream, extra moisturisers such as day or night creams or serum. It’s a one-hit does it all product and I love it. >
Who are your favorite bloggers?
Well, every blog has something to bring to the party; I’ve yet to find one that doesn’t engage or add interest to the blogosphere in some way, so I’ll diplomatically take the 5th Amendment on this one, but non-beauty blogs I like are BangsAndABun, LibertyLondonGirl, TheVerySimonG and DisneyRollerGirl
What animal would you be if you could choose?
Oh I would definitely be a poodle… mine are totally spoilt!
What’s your pet hate?
Hmm.. I don’t really have any major ones, but I don’t like being kept waiting because I am working so immediately and fast that if I say I need something now, I really do!
What’s your vice?
What makes you subscribe to a blog?
I don’t subscribe to any blogs but keep the ones I like to look at on BlogLovin and do it that way.
How do you think your blog stands out from the other blogs?
I don’t know. I guess it was one of the first so maybe that.
Do you have a favorite make up artist? If yes, who is it?
Lisa Eldridge is really talented and I admire her but not sure I could call her a ‘favourite’…more exceptional in her field. I’m glad that some make up artists now have blogs because we get to see what they really can do and it’s mind-blowing. Very aspirational.
How would other people describe you using only 5 adjectives?
Moody. Funny. Punctual. Difficult. Risk-Taker (I’ve hyphenated that to make it one word!)
What do you consider your strengths?
Creativity and a strong work ethic. I really, really don’t mind putting in the hours and I would say that most nights I work til at least 9 or 10pm. I have lots and lots of ideas as well.. for make up, for the blog and for features I’m commissioned to write so I feel like I am always buzzing with thoughts and creative stuff.
What is your favorite beauty magazine?
I rarely read beauty magazines any more
What food can you not stay away from?
Chips, grilled Haloumi and toast (not all together!).
How often per month do you haul?
Not often because I am lucky enough to be sent a lot of products. My most recent purchase was a Chanel Top Coat for nails and something from Boots to stop frizz.
Is there something we should know about you that you haven’t shared before?
No nothing.. I’m a pretty open book!
As I said in the intro, this girl is one of my favorite bloggers ever. I’ve been following her for the past 2 years after realising that the US based bloggers didn’t do much good for me what with blogging about products that I couldn’t get hold of. Not that that’s their fault!!
But yes, I just love this girl. You will find out about new stuff first at her blog, she knows it all and she does know what she’s talking about!! <3 Please please go and check her blog out!!
Much love,
Miss drifted Snow White
