Now that I’m back in the UK I’m missing Germany like crazy, so when I was looking through my photos, I realised I never shared my pictures from my trip to the beach. When I grew up I spent a lot of weeks camping with my family right by the beach in the North East of Germany. I used to think when the sun set and touched the sea, that it’d heat up, so you’d find me running into the sea soon after. I’d spend hours swimming in the sea, jumping against the big waves as hard as I could. Being by the beach gives me a sense of serenity, of home. Of course I had to go and do a beach trip to the Baltic Sea even if it was –2 degrees (felt like –10 with the breeze!).
I miss the sea in the UK so much – of course I chose to live in the city for 5 years that is furthest away from any coast (Birmingham). Only then I actually realised how important the seaside is for me emotionally.
Do you have a place that does this for you? That gives you a sense of home, of serenity?

Jetzt wo ich wieder in England bin fehlt mir Deutschland so richtig. Als ich dann durch meine Fotos geguckt habe stellte ich fest, dass ich meine Fotos vom Strandbesuch noch nicht gebloggt habe! Als ich aufwuchs verbrachte ich viele Wochen Zelten mit meiner Familie direkt am Strand im Nordosten von Deutschland. Damals dachte ich dass, wenn die Sonne beim Untergang das Wasser beruehrt, dass es sich dadurch aufwaermt, und so konnte man mich oft danach ins Wasser rennen sehen. Ich schwamm stundenlang im Meer herum, sprang mit aller Kraft gegen die grossen Wellen. Am Strand zu sein gibt mir ein voelliges Ruhegefuehl, ein Gefuehl von ZuHause. Also musste ich logischerweise zur Ostsee, auch wenn es –2 Grad waren (
fuehlte sich an wie –10 Grad mit dem Wind!).
Mir fehlt das Meer sehr in England – natürlich habe ich 5 Jahre lang in der Stadt gewohnt, die am Weitesten von irgendeiner Küste entfernt ist (Birmingham). Erst da habe ich gemerkt, wie wichtig mir die Küste ist emotional gesehen.
