5 Things I Regret Buying

I wasn’t specifically tagged for this, but I really liked what I read on other blogs, so I decided I could share my 5 regrettable buys.

You know me, I’d like to share my personal good and bad experience with products. You also know of me that I get more and more sceptical the higher the price of the product (yes, I am happy to pay SOME money to make my skin better but not THAT much – yes, I’m stingy :-p)

Dermalogica products
A couple of months ago (or maybe even a year ago) I asked the lovely people on Twitter to recommend a couple of skincare products for oily skins and people suggested Dermalogica – either based on hearsay or on their own personal positive experience. So I went off to the Westfield Shopping Centre to get a facemap thingy and shopped travel size versions of the products that I had been ‘prescribed’. Conveniently they didn’t do any travel size products in the stall, but I ain’t buying products for that price just because a nice lady says they work wonders. I used them all, just like I’d been told. They did absolutely NOTHING for me. I’m so glad I didn’t buy the full-size products. I dont blame it on the lovely ladies who recommended the brand to me though, they must have gotten better skin that’s all.

MAC Eye Shadows
Yes, I hate them. When I got into beauty I jumped on the band wagon and bought loads of original and 2nd hand eye shadows because I wanted to be cool and have the good products. Man was I disappointed when I received them. Don’t get me wrong, MAC really do beautiful shades and every time I walk past a MAC stand I have to force myself not to stop, but 90% of the eye shadows are so rubbish. Not enough pigmentation for that price. There’s so many brands that do better eye shadows for half the price: Inglot, Ben Nye, Kryolan, Sleek, StarMakeupHaven, just to name a few. I wont be buying any eye shadows from MAC anymore and I will most likely be selling most of those I have anyways. I do like MAC for its blushes and lippies.

Inglot Palettes
When IMATS hit London this January (wow feels like aaages ago!) I bought 3 round-shadow palettes, despite the fact that they cheekily had increased their prices by 67% (no kidding, I had called them at the beginning of January, they gave me the prices and even with pro discount at IMATS the prices were higher than they were quoted when I called them). And now I’ve barely even used them LOL. But that’s my own mistake and NOT down to the quality of the products. They are still amazing eye shadows! But for now, I wish I had the money rather than the eye shadows that I dont use!

Urban Decay Naked Palette
Oh I definitely, 100% regret buying this palette. Sooo much hype around a piece of sh*t that has a lot of similar colors. Only 4 matte shadows. That’s just not my thing. Considering that Sleek and BeautyUK and MUAPro do similar, a lot cheaper palettes, I totally regret buying this palette. Literally opened the box, swatched and though ‘Oh, crap!’. This will be another thing that will go on sale!

Nicky Clarke Hot Rollers
WHY WOULD I NEED HOT ROLLERS? LOL, whatever got me to buy those rollers? I think I saw Nic and Sam from Pixiwoos use them or something and they looked beautiful so my head went ‘well if you use them, you’ll look just as stunning as them’ LOL. I definitely didn’t. Curls on top of curly frizzy hair is a NO GO. If I wanted to use these hot rollers, I’d have to straighten my hair, which is a lot of effort that I can’t be bother to make. They were only £15 and did work as in they did give me curls, but it just looks horrible on top of my hair! This will go on sale too! Hurrah!

As you can tell, 3 items that I regret buying are down to their not working, only 2 are because of the waste of money for the not usage of the products lol. I’ve been trying to stay away from hype purchases, but sometimes, especially as a blogger, I sometimes feel like I need to be able to join the conversation when other people hype about a specific product or service (such as Liz Earle, or Urban Decay Naked Palette, or MAC, etc).

What are the five products that you regret buying?

Much love,
Miss drifted Snow White

i agree with you big time on the mac shadows….they have like no pigment half the time!  i have 3 that just waste away in my drawer because I’m exasperated with those particular colors…i have some that i love (expensive pink) but am not enthralled with many of them when there are other brands that do just as well or better for less as you said

It seems you’re not the only one who’s sick of the NAKED-palette hype. I absolutely LOVE my Naked-palette. Yes, I jumped on the hype-wagon because of youtube, but I was gifted the palette and I absolutely LOVE it to bits! The only color that I’m a bit concerned about is ‘Sidecar’ as it has a lot of fall-out.
I agree with you on the MAC shadows! I got ‘Patina’ as my first shadow and was absolutely THRILLED to use it for looks. The pigmentation is awful. lol. I swatched it in store and it looked so nice, but on the lid.. nah, no thanks. I love ‘Parfait Amour’ and ‘Beautymarked’ so much though, and I really wanna get my hands on ‘Woodwinked’. I think it depends on what color you get, though. Some of their colors are ‘meh’ while some of them are absolutely stunning :)

i’m glad that you like the Naked palette. I guess the higher the price the more I expect and for £35 or whatever it was, I just expect a bit more than just having 8 out of 12 eyeshadows with the same finish. And yeah you are actually right, some of the MAC eye shadows are fantastic – I love ‘Swiss Chocolate’, ‘Rice Paper’ and ‘Tiessue Weight’ but they aren’t very pigmented, that’s my real issue, like u said xx

I love the Naked Palette – I really like it better than the MUA equivalent (which I also have). Even though it was expensive it has been well worth it, for me. Totally agree about Dermalogica though, didn’t do anything for me either, unfortunately x

I’m so glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t like Mac eyeshadows. I  always thought I was missing out as I didn’t own any and then I won two in giveaways and I was so disappointed with them. Really glad I didn’t spend my own money on them x
