I have a very important paper due next Friday on my leadership philosophy, where I have to pick, describe and justify 5 principles that make up my philosophy. That leadership philosophy should ideally be holistic (obviously getting along with employees is great, but a leader also needs to actually get them to do stuff) and the principles should sort-of build up on each other. Sounds easy? It’s really not.

I spent all Saturday afternoon just trying to justify ‘having integrity’ as one principle. Of course it’s kind of a natural choice – who would think of a leader as being effective if they don’t have integrity and stick to their word, right? But try justify that with scientific research! It’s so interlinked with trust and relationships between employees and employers and all sorts of other stuff, that it’s difficult to just get my head around it!

I knew I was going to struggle with this paper – that’s why I’ve been putting it off for so long (and also because I’ve had other coursework due). So I knew I was going to have a crap day (I did, and not just because of this coursework but other massive struggles) – so I thought it’d get me into a positive mood by just dressing nice!

What do you think? Overdressed for a day in the library? Do you put effort into looking nice especially when you know you have a tough day ahead of you?
