Have you ever dreaded turning yet another year older to the point where you push that thought completely out of your mind so that you forget to organise drinks for your birthday and make no plans? I was in that position for the past few weeks. To the point where my friends would ask what my plans for my birthday were and I’d go “oh yeah, crap, there’s that!”. So for self-entertainment, I was going with ‘I’m turning 18 for a 2nd time’ ;-) It’s not a day worth celebrating anymore I thought, so I told Lodz that I might not be the happiest of bunnies on my ‘special day’ once I woke up. But perfect as Lodz is, he knew exactly what I needed to be at ease – the seaside.
I grew up by the sea. I used to sometimes just take my sleeping bag and just cycle to the shore and sleep there. When I was little my family and I used to spend the 8 weeks of summer holidays camping (in style) by the seaside. I need the sea in my life. And out of all places I live in Birmingham, probably THE town in the UK that is the furthest away from any seaside. I need the sea. The salt in the air. The sound of the waves crashing onto the beach. The seagulls. And I got all of that. At Southport.
And then Lodz took me to Steven Gerrard’s fancy restaurant Warehouse that we had all for ourselves with the most delish food ever. Makes my mouth water just thinking about it. In the end, the day was exactly how I needed it to be. Soothing and pure and beautiful.
