Review: Mark Hill Sexy Curls Shampoo

Recently I bought my first Mark Hill product in the Post-Xmas sales and for a change I bought something for my hair to turn my natural curls into proper curls instead of something to make it sleek and straight. I tested it now for a week, I used it every day or every other day and have only replaced my old shampoo with this – the rest of my hair care routine remained the same.

Before I go into the review, please note, that version of the Sexy Curls that I picked up was redesigned and remodeled and this review is specificially for the old version.

Product Details
Brand: Mark Hill
Product Type: Shampoo
Product Name: Sexy Curls
Size: 250ml / 8.4 US fl oz
Price: £5.10
Description: “With natural extracts of Silk Proteins and Silsoft to strengthen and add shine. There’s nothing more gorgeous than beautiful curls and waves. My moisture-rich, daily use shampoo gently nourishes and cleanses deep down to revive and enhance naturally curly or permed hair. A blend of natural ingredients leaves your curls soft, shiny and frizz-free for longer.

Packaging
The product comes in a pink see-through squeezy bottle. It’s kind of semi-circular – it’s frontside is flat, but the backside is kind of half round. My shampoo didn’t come with a cap, but it would have been just continuing the shape upwards. The screw-lid on the opening of the shampoo is pink too – just like the rest of the bottle – and has a tilt-switch, which means you have to press one side down for the other side to pop open so you can dispense the product. This is the same for the new version of the curls line – it is just in orange now instead of pink. I would prefer the lid not to be screwable, as that just increases the risks of coming loose and spilling product everywhere. But then again, that also means that I can get even the very last bit out of the bottle. 5 out of 5

Product
For the curls line of Mark Hill – who is obviously more known for producing hair straighteners and products to help you straighten your hair – there are only 3 products to enhance curls: this shampoo, the matching conditioner and a “curl control spray”. Obviously, Mark Hill don’t specialise in curly hair, but it still would’ve been nice to have more variations to the line itself – maybe a deep treatment would have been nice! Or maybe a shampoo with another scent?! It’s only available in 250ml (8.4 US fl oz) for £5.10 which I find quite a hefty price! 2.5 out of 5

Quality
The product itself is clear and just the right consistency between gel and liquid. It lathers up nicely and has a nice, decent scent – I can’t tell if it smells of anything specific though. While my hair felt soft after the wash, it didn’t feel any softer than before, so that softness can’t be necessarily pin-pointed to the shampoo. And my hair was just as frizzy as before. I let my hair dry naturally after combing when wet as straight as I could. But my hair is very, very damaged from straightening it, so I can’t blame the product for not being able to save any of it. I also gave this to my bf and his curls actually seemed a bit more defined and less frizzy! I’m not sure what to say in terms of the effectiveness of this product, so I’m gonna say 2.5 out of 5

Overall
I wouldn’t buy this again! Certainly not for its original £5.10! I’m glad I got this in the clearance, otherwise I would’ve never picked this up. You are welcome to call me stingy, but I refuse to pay more than £3-4 for a shampoo unless I’ve only heard super amazing comments about it! But if I did find it in clearance again, I would buy it again because it does smell lovely and its texture/consistency is lovely!! 2.5 out of 5

Conclusion
Packaging: 5 out of 5
Product: 2.5 out of 5
Quality: 2.5 out of 5
Overall: 2.5 out of 5
Total: 7.5 out of 20

I hope you found this review helpful! Have you had different experience with Mark Hill?

Much love,
