Review: L’Oreal Men Eexpert Sensitive Shave Gel

The Blurb:
L’Oreal Men Expert Hydra Sensitive Shave Gel is an anti razor burn gel with 4 fortifying minerals designed for sensitive skin to reinforce the skin’s protective layer to help prevent razor burn and irritations.

I was in need of a new shave gel, having exhausted my King of Shaves alphagel, and decided to go for something a bit different. I like the L’oreal Men Expert range, and this ‘Hydra Sensitive’ shave gel looked like it’d be worth a shout.

Packaging
This product comes in a very standard pack – pressurised cylinder with a plastic lid over the top. The cylinder is aluminium so it won’t rust and leave a rusty ring on your shelf. Apart from that it is fairly standard. My only criticism is that as with all these packs, a bit of product comes out after you have used it, but that’s a general and tiny issue. 4 out of 5

Product
The product is pretty good, if a bit expensive. There is another L’oreal shave gel in shops for under £4, and I got this pretty much in a ‘grab the first thing’ fashion. It works well, softening the bristle well and allowing the blade to glide. However it didn’t TOTALLY prevent razor burn, so i’m not sure it’s the best sensitive skin product, especially as it says ‘anti razor-burn’ on the pack. (there is one big pro, which I will mention in the next section.) The fragrance is pretty generic shave gel, masculine, fresh, and not one of these crazy combos some of the smaller firms use. 3 out of 5

Quality
The quality is pretty good. It’s a step up from the standard Gillette Series shave gel (which I use now and again when travelling) but it is not the Holy Grail of shaving products. The best foaming gel I have used is the Clarins one, and this doesn’t provide quite the same feel. HOWEVER. (and this is a big however) since using this shave gel, my skin has not broken out with blemishes, and so while it might not be the best for preventing razor burn, the minerals seem to leave my skin in good condition, so it doesn’t aggravate sensitive skin – 3 out of 5

Overall
Will I buy this again? Probably not. Though that’s more to do with me wanting to try new products than me really disliking the product. As foaming gels go it is pretty good, and I am pleased that it is kind to skin. I will certainly be using the entire can, but I will not be religiously sticking to this product forever. Good, but I’m not blown away. 3 out of 5
