Review: IMATS 2011 London

Hi everyone!!

I just got back from London a couple of hours ago after 2 fun-filled, exhausting IMATS days!! But I wanted to let you know what I thought of it anyways.

You might know that it was my first IMATS ever. And losing that IMATS-virginity was …. INTERESTING … it certainly was as busy as I expected it to be, but I for example didn’t expect it to be so crappily organized. I’m not an event manager, so I can’t really judge, but it didn’t seem very professional. They should think about getting into a new location (ExCel maybe?), because this is getting bigger and bigger and if you have so many exhibitioners you make the room the walk and queue and talk so small that it gets too crowded and just not fun at all. Also, I expected some stalls to be more professional looking and then there were some that I expected to look basic that looked really good. I didn’t go to any sessions, but one: ALEX BOX. I couldn’t miss it. I love the makeup art she creates for Illamasqua so I wanted to see her work (also because that always give you the opportunity to see tricks that artists use). She did 3 or 4 looks (I cant remember right now, my mind is blurgh) within ONE HOUR and it was just such an experience. She selected amazing music as well – she didn’t explain anything of what she was doing, but just watching her was mind boggling. I know that the Guru Summit went really well, though it wasn’t 100% filled (Alex’s was). Lauren Luke’s was almost empty, which was in the main stage room (500) whereas for example the Makeup Artist Competition was for 150 and it was rammed and right next to the busiest stall (Crown Brushes). I’d give 2 out of 5

I am so glad though that I went, because I get to play around with brands that I mostly sell online and I wouldn’t buy blindly, such as Ben Nye, Graftobian and Mehron. Never heard of Eye Kandy Cosmetics either, so that was nice to see. And not to forget Inglot.

But here’s the thing that pissed me off. INGLOT HAS TURNED INTO A RIP-OFF!! I’ll explain why. I called their shop in Westfield Shopping Centre in the first week of January to find out how much they were, seeing that there’s no information at all on the website. I was told that the FREEDOM 10 PALETTE with SQUARE EYE SHADOWS was £35 and the same palette with ROUND EYE SHADOWS was £32. I didn’t ask about IMATS discount, but I knew I would expect to pay the most £35 for the square palette.
So when I got to their stand (the first stand I threw myself at), I got really annoyed when I saw that the SQUARE EYE SHADOWS FREEDOM 10 PALETTE cost £41 including discount!! So I asked and they told me that that palette is now £58! ITS GONE FROM £35 to £58!!! That is a 66% price increase!! RI-effing-DICULOUS! I know their products are great and all, but who do they think they are?! They don’t have online shopping, only have a couple of stores, have been hyped for about 6 months and they already increase prices?! EXCUUUSE ME?! Those 3 palettes I bought are definitely the only products I will ever buy from them. I don’t do rip-off. I don’t do brands that cash in or people that sell out.

There were two highlights on Saturday: I met the lovely Mathilde (Tildzbox) and Becky (BeckysBlog) from youtube, who are kind and funny and lovely and beautiful and super talented. Without them I would have probably left the IMATS after 2 hours, because by then I had bought the stuff I definitely wanted to have. I blame them for my £300 spending :p

And I got to meet Nic & Sam from Pixiwoo. One word: MINDBLOWING. They are stunningly beautiful (as in model-like beautiful), have stunning bodies and are soo down to earth and kind and supportive. I got to ask them my questions that I had in private and I got a picture with them too. They are the best inspiration an aspiring make up artist can have and a great role model.

Meeting Wayne Goss was also fantastic – such a sweety but so shy! Bless him :) Bet MAC being there didn’t help either. Met Mandy too :)

Seeing Koren from EnKore and Pursebuzz was cool too – but weird as well! It was like I just stepped into their youtube videos!

All in all a great experience and I will definitely go again next year – but maybe only one day though, because it was super exhausting!!
